oraCMU - Received GRAS Self-Affirmed for oral probiotic strain
OraTicx announced that it has received approval for the U.S. "self-affirmed GRAS" for oral probiotics raw materials and has entered the U.S. "FDA GRAS" approval process.
Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) is a system that evaluates and verifies the safety of food ingredients sold in the U.S. market, and there are two types: self-verified GRAS and FDA GRAS. The US FDA recognizes the results of FDA verification and self-verification equally.
The raw material that has been verified for safety through this self-verified GRAS approval is oraCMUTM owned by OraTicx.
oraCMUTM is a K-probiotics that has been separately identified in the mouth of children with healthy mouth. Already, seven human application tests and 29 research papers have proven the safety of strains and inhibition of harmful bacteria.
According to a study of human application tests introduced in SCI-class international journal BMC Oral Health, oral probiotic strain oraCMUTM reduces gum bleeding index by 47.8% and pusobacterium nucleatum, which causes periodontal disease and bad breath, by 79.6%.

구강유산균 전문기업 오라팜이 구강유산균 원료에 대한 미국 '자체검증 GRAS'를 승인받고 미국 'FDA GRAS' 승인 절차에 들어갔다고 21일 밝혔다.
GRAS(Generally Recognized As Safe)는 미국 시장에서 판매되는 식품 원료의 안전성을 평가하고 검증하는 제도로 자체검증 GRAS와 FDA GRAS 두 가지가 있다. 미국 FDA는 FDA 검증과 자체검증 결과를 동등하게 인정하고 있다.
오라팜은 이번 자체검증 GRAS 승인에 그치지 않고 FDA GRAS 승인을 받을 계획이다. 오라팜 관계자는 "FDA GRAS 승인에는 어려움이 없을 것으로 본다"며 "올해 연말이면 무난하게 승인받을 것으로 예상한다"고 말했다.
이번 자체검증 GRAS 승인을 통해 안전성을 검증받은 원료는 오라팜이 보유한 구강유산균 균주 oraCMU이다. oraCMU는 구강이 건강한 한국 어린이 입에서 분리 동정한 K-프로바이오틱스이다.
이미 7차례의 인체적용시험과 29편의 연구 논문을 통해 균주의 안전성, 유해균 억제력 등을 입증 받았다. oraCMU가 사용된 구강유산균은 '오라틱스 그린브레스' '오라틱스 덴티' '오라틱스 키즈' 등으로 구강유산균 분야 한국내 판매 1위를 유지하고 있다.
SCI급 국제학술지 BMC Oral Health에 소개된 인체적용시험 연구 논문에 의하면 구강유산균 균주 oraCMU는 잇몸 출혈지수를 47.8% 감소시키고 치주질환과 입 냄새의 원인이 되는 푸소박테리움 뉴클레아툼을 79.6%, 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다.
한국치위생학회지에 소개된 인체적용시험 연구 논문에 따르면 구강유산균 균주 oraCMU가 구취 자각도 38.2%, 시험자가 직접 코로 맡아 느끼는 관능 구취 43%, 설태지수 41.8% 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.
침이 산성화되는 것을 완충시키는 타액 완충능은 20.3% 증가했다. 침 산성화는 치아를 부식시킬 뿐만 아니라 충치 원인균을 증식시켜 충치 발생의 원인이 되는 것으로 알려졌다.
또 오라팜은 국내 처음으로 상기도 감염 병원균에 대한 구강유산균 균주 oraCMU와 oraCMS1 작용에 대한 시험관내시험(in vitro)을 실시해 상기도 감염의 예방과 치료를 위한 새로운 가능성을 제시하기도 했다.
